Arizona Opera Receives US Airways Community Foundation Grant

$75,000 Corporate Grant Benefits the “Raising Our Voice” Campaign.

Arizona Opera’s first major corporate donation towards the “Raising Our Voice” capital campaign comes in the form of a $75,000 grant from the US Airways Community Foundation. The Foundation’s name will appear in the title of Arizona Opera’s Education and Outreach Department, as the Opera moves into its new home on Central Avenue in Phoenix this spring.

Arizona Opera’s Education and Outreach programs serve more than 70,000 school children and adults on an annual basis. In building the new Opera Center, Arizona Opera can offer a more permanent space for educational programs and access to wig, costume and production spaces; and in the 6,500 square foot black box theater, a place to attend live opera performances. The new Opera Center will allow annual cost savings of more than $300,000 through the consolidation of operations, elimination of leased space, and divestiture of real property.

The US Airways Community Foundation recognizes the importance of arts and culture to the overall development and economic prosperity of our communities – creating jobs, attracting visitors, generating revenue for our business and our communities. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations in the airline’s hub cities of Charlotte, N.C., Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington, D.C., for new building construction or the major renovation or expansion of an existing facility. Its strategic focus is to provide access to cultural resources that broaden artistic excellence by partnering with major arts and culture organizations, and Arizona Opera is pleased to be the recipient of this grant.
