AZ Opera’s HMS Pinafore Opens Season

Phoenix, AZ (August 29, 2013) – Arizona Opera’s 2013-14 season kicks off with a first-ever performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic production, HMS Pinafore performing at Symphony Hall October 11 through 13 in Phoenix and in Tucson on October 19 and 20 at Tucson Music Hall.

Set sail on the high seas with Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore.  Beloved for its jaunty tunes, gleefully entertaining story and sassy satire, HMS Pinafore is a perfect musical comedy for all ages.  HMS Pinafor features stage veteran Robert Orth as “Sir Joseph Porter”; Sara Gartland as “Josephine”; Curt Olds as “Captain Corcoran”; and a rising star in the next generation of opera, Mexcan-American David Portillo in the role of “Ralph Rackstraw”.  GRAMMY-nominated conductor Rob Fisher will lead the orchestra, while acclaimed stage director Tara Faircloth rounds out the creative team for this effervescent production. Sung in English with English supertitles.

Tickets to HMS Pinafore start at $25 and are on sale at www.azopera.org or by calling 602.266.7464 (Phoenix) or 520.293.4336 (Tucson). Packages of multiple shows for the season are also available for considerable savings.
