A native of St. Paul Minnesota, Sara Gartland earned favorable notices in the 2011-2012 season in her second and final year as an Adler Fellow with San Francisco Opera. The San Francisco Classical Voice exclaimed, “Gartland is a star through and through….she was stunning, both vocally and physically, in Massenet’s ‘Me voilà seule….Dis-moi que je suis belle‘ from Thaïs. Beautifully floating some of her softer notes, and setting her highs afire, Gartland was sensational.” For her portrayal as Micaëla in San Francisco Opera’s production of Carmen, Broadway World said, “Fortunately, there are a few supporting characters to help the production along. Sara Gartland… has a strong, stunning voice that commands attention, yet portrays the purity and innocence of the character. As a second-year Adler Fellow, Gartland is in the beginning stages of a career bound to take her to many more of the world’s famous opera houses.” This season she has already sung Juliette Romeo et Juliet Des Moines Metro Opera, and looks forward to singing Gretel Hansel and Gretel with Opera San Jose, Violetta La Traviata with Utah Opera later this season, Adina L’elisir d’amore with Austin Lyric Opera in 2014 and Musetta La Bohème with San Diego Opera in 2015.
