Wardrobe Supervisor
Arizona Opera is seeking to add the position of Wardrobe Supervisor to its overhire team. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that every aspect of wardrobe backstage is running safely and efficiently. This position leads a team of dressers in managing a fully staged opera from beginning to end. The role requires close collaboration with performers and various production and artistic team members to maintain smooth backstage operations. Reporting to the Costume Shop Manager and Assistant Costume Shop Manager, ideal candidates will demonstrate adaptability, quick problem-solving skills, thrive in a detail-oriented environment, and excel in interpersonal communication.

Arizona Opera is one of the few opera companies in the United States that performs in more than one city and venue. Rehearsals, tech, and opening performances of our main stage productions take place in Phoenix. Following the Phoenix performances, the production travels to Tucson, AZ, where it receives its closing performance.

Qualifications
- Degree in theatre/fashion technology or at least two years of professional wardrobe experience as a plus or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Willingness to adhere to Arizona Opera’s production standards and safety policies.
- Proficiency in fundamental computer skills, particularly Microsoft 365, is required.
- Strong communication, organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills are a must.
- Reliable transportation to get to and from the various venues, including travel down to Tucson.
Expectations
- Take charge of creating and maintaining all backstage paperwork, including but not limited to costume plots and wardrobe tracks, in collaboration with the Stage Management team.
- Help manage and train wardrobe crews at each venue in both Phoenix and Tucson.
- Lead wardrobe team through notes, problem solving, and interpersonal interactions.
- Attend room runs, load-in/load-out, dress rehearsals and performances.
- Possibly perform a wardrobe track.
- Lead in collection and completion of notes created during dress rehearsals and performances.
- Launder and stain treat garments as necessary during production.
- Help maintain the integrity of each costume design.
- Maintain a clean and effective work environment.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- General office, costume shop, and backstage environment.
- Extended periods standing and/or sitting at a sewing machine.
- Ability to perform duties within a rigorous schedule when necessary.
- Capable of climbing ladders and step stools.
- Ability to continuously lift heavy costumes during load-in, load-out, and performances.
- 8-10 hour shifts
- Evenings and weekends are required
- Limited travel to Tucson is necessary
Salary and Benefits
Compensation
- Job Type: Overhire, Non-exempt, not eligible for healthcare benefits
- Pay Rate: $26-$30/hour
- Any overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate for the employee
