Wig & Makeup Run Crew

Arizona Opera Company is seeking individuals interested in working as Wig & Makeup Running Crew for our upcoming 2022/23 Season. These positions report to the Head of Wigs & Makeup, and operate out of our performance venues.

Arizona Opera, originally the Tucson Opera Company, was founded in 1971 by a dedicated group of opera enthusiasts. Its inaugural season featured two performances of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville in Tucson and by the 1976/77 Season Arizona Opera was performing complete seasons in both Tucson and Phoenix.

Since its inaugural year, Arizona Opera has produced over 170 fully-staged operas and concerts. The company’s artistic history is rich with a blend of opera’s traditional repertoire featuring baroque, bel canto, and verismo works, turn-of-the- century masterpieces, operettas, and American operas. Arizona Opera has also presented Wagner’s complete Ring Cycle twice, a feat that has only been accomplished in North America by four other companies. In addition to producing five grand operas each year in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona Opera offers in-school touring productions and numerous outreach events for children and adults of all ages.

Job Title: Wig & Makeup Run Crew

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Department: Production

Reports To: Wig & Makeup Manager

Compensation: $16.50 / Hour


Job Summary

Wig & Makeup Running Crew members are responsible for assisting with the efficient application of the wig and or make-up design for the performers of the opera. All Wig & Makeup Running Crew will be present during performances and onstage rehearsals, as listed below. The position requires an outstanding professional demeanor, attitude and work ethic.

  • Candidate must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
  • The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of wig and makeup application.
  • The ideal candidate should have prior knowledge of working in the performing arts.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of a production.
  • Ability to remain positive, upbeat and professional, with a calm demeanor under stress.

Salary and Benefits

These are seasonal part time positions paid hourly and have no guarantee of hours. Starting pay is $16.50 per hour with the potential for increase based on experience.
