Exploring Modern Masterworks Study Day

Do you struggle to find the beauty in 21st-century opera? Or perhaps you want to find out how we went from Puccini’s romanticism to Philip Glass’s atonalism in less than 50 years? Arizona Opera invites you to an informative exploration filled with guided listening and discussion of opera in the past century led by Metropolitan Opera Guild lecturer, Naomi Barrettara. 
The exploration comes in preparation for this season’s Marlu Allen and Scott Stallard Modern Masterwork performances of the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera, Silent Night.

 

Part 1: 20th Century Evolution

Explore the dramatic evolution of opera through the 20th Century.

 

Part 2: Opera in the New Millennium

Sunday, February 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The discussion continues with current opera trends and tendencies post-2000

 

This event will take place at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ 85712. Tickets for the full study day are $20 and include entrance to the Tucson Botanical Gardens. Individual lecture tickets are not available.
