Grace Newberry
Mezzo-soprano Grace Newberry, a native of California, is attending the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) for her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance, where she studies with Bill McGraw. This season at CCM, Grace worked closely with William Bolcom in a Cabaret show featuring his works and performed the role of Olga in the Merry Widow by Lehár. Grace was a Studio Artist with The Wolf Trap Opera Company in 2013 and 2015 where, in addition to singing in the season’s choruses, she sang the roles of Modestina in Il viaggio a Reims by Rossini (2013), Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly by Puccini (2015), Diane in The Ghosts of Versailles by Corigliano (2015) and the cover to the role of Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart (2015). Grace is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music from which she received her B.M. in Vocal Performance. During her time at Oberlin, she performed as L’enfant in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortileges, Annio in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito and Hata in The Bartered Bride by Smetna. She is excited to debut with Opera Birmingham and Arizona Opera in the Christmas Cabaret.
