Arizona Opera is unveiling its 2025/26 Main Stage Season, in addition to the presentation of internationally celebrated mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton with pianist Kathleen Kelly in 2026. Arizona Opera’s Main Stage Season and Barton’s recital will be performed in both the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas, continuing with the company’s proud tradition of performing in both cities.
The 2025/26 Season will mark Arizona Opera’s return to a traditional “fall-to-spring” programming schedule and will open with the eagerly anticipated company premiere of Héctor Armienta’s Zorro. Inspired by the legendary masked vigilante who ignites a revolution and becomes a hero of the people, Zorro is being presented as part of the Arizona Opera McDougall RED Series.
Next will be the greatly anticipated return of Madama Butterfly, Giacomo Puccini’s timeless masterpiece of love, longing and loss. With its exquisite arias and tender duets, Madama Butterfly is a heartfelt journey of unparalleled beauty and human emotion that has captivated audiences the world over for more than a century.
The final production in Arizona Opera’s 2025/26 Main Stage Season will be Rossini’s delightful opera, La Cenerentola (Cinderella), part of the Marlu Allan and Scott Stallard Family Series. This semi-staged presentation of the beloved fairytale promises laughter, romance, and soaring arias that will delight all who attend - both those who are young AND those who are young-at-heart.

A whirlwind of action and romance blazes across the stage in ZORRO. Trained in secret, Diego de la Vega returns home to a land ruled by oppression—and rises as Zorro, the masked swashbuckling defender of the people. Passions ignite and swords clash when he must battle corrupt power, confront lost love, and spark a revolution.
Performed in English and Spanish, the iconic masked avenger is reimagined in a gripping new crowd-pleasing opera that fuses soaring Puccini-inspired melodies with a Latin flair, a revolutionary spirit, and swords ablaze.
Zorro is part of the McDougall Arizona Opera RED Series. Production made possible, in part, through generous support from The Carol Franc Buck Foundation, Susan Esco Chandler and Alfred D. Chandler, Womble Bond Dickinson, and Rio Nuevo.
The appearance of Anthony Barrese is made possible, in part, by Dean Yannias.
This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. To find out more about how National Endowment for the Arts grants impact individuals and communities, visit www.arts.gov.
The scenery, props, and costumes for this presentation of Hector Armienta’s Zorro were created through a coproduction between Opera San José, Kentucky Opera, and Arizona Opera.
