Spit and Sewing Needles: The Art of Handmade Costumes
Southwest Folklife sat down with Arizona Opera's Costumer Shop Manager, Kathleen Trott. The interviewer asks her about how she got into costume making and some of her current projects she is working on right now. Kathleen Trott also is asked about the process that goes into designing and creating these costumes.
"I started doing theater when I was young. My mom took me to go see ballet and theater, so I’ve been involved in some way for a long time. I went to school at Southern Oregon University for costume construction and design... creating what we see, but remaining unseen. I dabbled in set design, but costumes made more sense; where I ended up just felt right."
