El Gato con Botas (Puss in Boots)

ACT ONE

Following the death of his father, a poor Miller laments that his sole inheritance is a cat. Since he doesn’t know what to do with the cat, the Miller decides to kill him. To save his own life, Puss tells the Miller he will bring him a princess and a large fortune. He requests several gifts before doing so: a hat, sword, a satin cape, and, of course, a pair of boots. The Miller obliges. Armed with his fancy new outfit, Puss sets off to look for a rabbit as a gift for the King.

The King announces the kingdom is at war. Puss arrives and introduces himself as the servant of the Marquis of Carabas. He presents rabbits as a present to the King. He also presents a romantic letter that he reads to the Princess, supposedly from his Master. The Princess is immediately enamored with her mysterious admirer.

ACT TWO

Puss convinces the Miller to jump in the river and pretend to drown. The King and Princess and entourage are passing by and save him. They give him dry royal clothes, completing the Miller's royal makeover, and he is introduced to them as the Marquis of Carabas.

Puss runs ahead to the Ogre's castle. The Ogre is known for his frightening looks and his ability to magically transform into any creature. Puss visits him and taunts him into changing into a lion, parrot, and finally, a rat. Puss then eats the rat-Ogre whole, just in time for the King, the Princess, and the Miller to arrive. Puss pretends that the Ogre’s castle belongs to the Marquis, and invites the party in. The Princess and Miller/Marquis express their love for each other, and the King agrees that they can marry. Everyone sings about their happiness, and Puss curls up to revel in his victory with a much-needed cat nap
