Follow this Wild West adventure through the sweeping vistas and massive canyons of the Southwest, brought to life by the vibrant work of world-renowned Arizona artist, Ed Mell.

In addition to the new opera, Zane Grey’s “Riders of the Purple Sage” spawned no fewer than five film versions of the epic saga. In this program, Arizona’s Official Western Film Historian Charlie LeSueur explores the various incarnations of the film adaptations of the novel and the overall impact the book had on the western genre.

Arizona Opera is proud to announce our electrifying premiere of the new American opera Riders of the Purple Sage will be released for broadcast nationally and internationally on November 25, 2017! The broadcast will be heard on more than 60 stations throughout the United States and will be available internationally to the European Broadcasting Union.
