Director of Finance, Administration, & HR
Joann Serra joined Arizona Opera in September 2012, as the Director of Finance, Administration and Human Resources. In this role, she oversees the company's financial reporting and cash management in an accurate and timely manner, managing the financial staff to ensure that official monthly and annual financial statements comply with generally accepted accounting principles. Oversees administration, HR and IT operations, updating and implementing all necessary business polices and accounting practices, to ensure consistency of operations of the organization.
Ms. Serra understands all areas of nonprofit arts organizations and has the ability to work together, as a team, for a company to thrive and grow. She has had a solid history of senior leadership positions and her many years of nonprofit arts experience have included Director of Finance, Administration and Human Resources with Palm Beach Opera; Accounting Manager and Interim CFO with Norton Museum of Art; and as Director of Finance, Administration and Human Resources with Jupiter Performing Arts Company.
Ms. Serra has a Business Administration and Management AAS degree from Bergen Community College; Finance and Financial Management certification from Rutgers University; and Professional Human Resource Management certification from Northwood University. Throughout her career, she has been an active member of SHRM.
In her spare time, she enjoys good food, whether she is cooking or dining out, music, theatre, audio books, Pilates, swimming, spending time with close friends, and her two cats Lexi and Laci.
