After years of development, the world premiere of Riders of the Purple Sage, a new opera based on Zane Grey's Western novel of the same name will be unveiled in Phoenix and Tucson.
Arizona Opera kicks off 2017 with Puccini's masterpiece, Madama Butterfly, in Tucson on January 28 at 7:30 pm and January 29 at 2:00 pm in Tucson Music Hall at 260 S. Church and in Phoenix on February 3 & 4 at 7:30 pm and February 5 at 2:00 pm in Symphony Hall, 75 N. 2nd St., Phoenix.
The story follows the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale "Little Mermaid" with dramatic flair as the mermaid Rusalka seeks to be part of the human world.
The Glimmerglass Festival, one of the most prestigious opera festivals in the United States, has appointed Allen Perriello as the Director of their Young Artists Program, beginning Summer 2017. Perriello will remain as Arizona Opera's Head of Music and Director of the Marion Roose Pullin Opera Studio, a post he has held since 2012.

(Phoenix, Tucson) Never before seen on the Arizona Opera stage, Verdi's Falstaff comes to life in this new production opening April Fools' Day. Irascible, randy and boastful, John Falstaff concocts a scheme to seduce the wealthy Wives of Windsor and nab their riches. His plot quickly unravels in a series of elaborate pranks as the clever women enlist everyone to outwit the old rascal. Based on the Shakespearean character, Falstaff was Verdi's final opera, and some consider his finest.
(Phoenix, Tucson, Ariz.) The man, the myth and the legend. Mozart's Don Giovanni comes to the Arizona Opera stage February 26-28 in Symphony Hall in Phoenix and March 5-6 in Tucson Music Hall. Don Giovanni is sung in Italian with English supertitles.
